Now, now, now. Before you rant and rave at me. "Duh... podcasts have been around for years" "Living under a rock?" "Really? Only now..." No! I have previously dabbled in some podcasts, often super nerdy educational ones, *cough* Stuff You Should Know *cough* Dr. Karl on Triple J *cough* . Often the main purpose of listening to which was... well... falling asleep. Now that I've discovered comedy podcasts, needless to say it's changed why I listen to podcasts.
I've always loved comedy. Who doesn't right? Well, so many people 'think' they love comedy, but really they love a, one, singular comedian. These people often don't know any other comedians, except for those on television regularly, and have probably never seen standup live. In my opinion, these people do not 'love' comedy. But in terms of comedy podcasts, most people's consumption is limited to Hamish and Andy, and that's only if they missed them on the drive home on Friday. But I'm here to open your ears to another range of comedy podcasts. All Australian. All hilarious. Let's get to it.
Brief description time.
The Little Dum Dum Club with Tommy Dassalo (not a woman, but easily mistakable) and Karl Chandler. Each week the pair find a comedian 'friend of the show' to 'interview'. But usually, it just turns into a group of mates, sharing embarrassing stories in hilarious ways. Simple.
The Minutes. With Mel Buttle (female comedian, and one-day-a-week teacher) and Patience Hodgson (front woman of The Grates). Now these cat-lady-converts actually have two podcasts. The Minutes is Mel and Patience just having a yarn, about the past fortnight, childhood swimming carnivals, and lots of fight stories. Often there's guest, usually comedians (Tom and Alex) or members of or relations to The Grates. You're Welcome, their other podcast, is a bit of self help. Mel and Patience solving the listeners problems one tweet at a time. Also, these ladies are Brisbanites, so get excited when they mention things you've actually heard of.
I Love Green Guide Letters. Where Steele Saunders and fellow comedian guests comment on the television and radio reviews of week from Melbourne's The Age Green Guide. Pretty Straight forward. Pretty hilarious.
Slapbang Radio. The love child of Dave Thornton and Tommy Little. One of the most structured of podcasts, with regular segments like 'Coffee Questions with Dave', 'Let's Get Nostalgic' and 'Scotty's World'. But look forward to unexpected tales such as The Turd Burglar.
And finally, TOFOP. Wil Anderson. Charlie Clausen. Talk. Often about Batman. There's a lot of hypotheticals. You'll be left with so many TOFOP facts.
Now all of these you can find for FREE, yeah FREE on iTunes. They are all Googleable. And yeah... welcome to the wonderful world of Australian comedy podcasts... (yes, there's more than just Hamish and Andy).
DISCLAIMER: All of these contain inappropriate and often disgusting adult humour.
